Basic Admission Requirements in Nigeria

Before you can gain or even be considered for admission in any Nigeria educational institutions, there are some requirements that you need to have.

These prerequisites are but not limited to:

  1. Age: I assume you are familiar with this one. You need to be at least 16 years old to be admitted. Don’t try to fake or change your age if you are not yet sixteen.
  2. O level result: You must have your complete o level result(s) with you, it must have at least 5 credit passes in relevant subject to your course (English Language and mathematics are compulsory).
  3. Choice of institution: Your choice of institution in JAMB determines if you will be offered admission or not.
  4. Catchment Area: Some schools usually have a catchment area and candidates from those areas are given more preference and their required cut off mark is lower.
  5. ELDS: This means Educationally Less Developed States in Nigeria. Most of them are in the northern region of Nigeria, some universities and polytechnics usually set a different cut off mark for candidates from these states.
  6. JAMB Score must meet the general JAMB cut off mark for that institution.
  7. Your aggregate must beat the departmental cut off scores for your course in that school.
